New Customs Rules in Turkey

The customs authorities in Turkey have relaxed the laws relating to storage addresses of non-cleared goods. Now it is possible for companies importing goods to store shipments in their own warehouses or their customs agents warehouse, and not only in the government controlled warehouses that are bound to certain customs points or our partners warehouse.
This can of course be advantageous for many clients, but it also presents a greater challenge for hauliers and forwarders, as the rules and procedures for import clearance have not also been relaxed. The relaxtion of the laws for delivery to certain storages areas will result in a greater wish to deliver to clients own warehouses, but at the same time it will result in a much longer period of time for customs clearance, as there will be more "sub-customs places" being used. The customs clearance procedure usually takes 1-2 days. Delivery to clients own warehouse will certainly result in longere clearance/delivery times of shipments, depending on the number of "sub-customs" places.
We have an obligation to consider our clients expectations to actual transit time, as well as the economical aspect in that our trucks need to return from Turkey the same week that they arrive. We therefore have to set a limit as to what we can deliver directly to clients own warehouses. We have set the limit at 5000 kgs / 2,8 ldm / 15 cbm or above. All shipments that are less than this will still only be able to be unloaded at the customs warehouse or alternatively our partner, ULUSOY, own bonded groupage warehouse. After finalization of the import customs procedure, the shipments can then be delivered/collected.
We will continue to go to the customs terminals our clients request, it is only the direct deliviers to clients own warehouses that will be affected by this limitation.
